Our little bear. Porter had a great time growling at everyone.

At "Boo at the Zoo." The kids get to see the animals and get candy! It's great! This is Porter with one of his good friends James.

Ben graduated! HOORAY!! The ceremony was this past weekend and his parents and sister, Mary, came for the special occasion. We're so proud of him!

This was taken after the ceremony. After sitting for 45 minutes, Porter was ready to be free. I kept my jacket on from my previous employer AmeriTitle because that is where I worked the entire time Ben was in school (except for the last month and a half). Thanks AmeriTitle for helping us get through the last 4 years!

This past summer, we went on a raft trip with some friends and had a great time. The weather was perfect and the water felt great!

I was getting ready to take Porter to get his pictures done and thought maybe I should take a few so he'll be used to it. When I asked him to smile, this is what he did. I thought it turned out great!

My sister took us to a Jump 'N Bounce and Porter LOVED it! Instead of walking, he usually jumps wherever he goes anyway. And instead of running, he shuffles along really fast. He has so much energy!

Family Visit

Porter and I spent a week visiting family and let dad put his nose to the grind to finish off the semester. Porter had a blast playing with his cousins.
Porter gives us a few good laughs during the day as he comes up with new and silly things. This day, his horse got stuck in his pocket which he thought was funny and asked me to put the rest of his "ahmals" on him. Too cute!

While visiting with the family, we had a dinner with everyone and celebrated Porter's birthday. He did much better this year and smiled when everyone was singing "Happy Birthday" to him. (Last year, he screamed.)

Porter turned 2 this month and we can't believe it! He is such a busy little boy; constantly moving from one thing to the next. We are amazed every day with the new words and phrases he can say and how clearly he says them... at least they're clear for mom and dad who are pretty used to his speech. "Curious George" has become a favorite at our house and he asks several times a day for "more George?" Porter still loves his blankets and wants them all piled on him at night. He loves to give kisses and hugs and has a great time playing with other children. He truly is so much fun and brightens our days with his sweet smile and addictive giggle. We decided we'll keep him around!

My first time packing the little man. Darn kid never held still so my balance was off for the hike and we were eaten alive by the mosquitoes, but the scenery, weather and company were delightful!

I got out the door pretty early this morning (7:40 am) to hit the grocery stores before the crowd. Porter didn't mind so much; he's up by 6:30 anyway. By the time we got home though, it was 10:00 and he needed to play and be free! We have a park just half a block from our house so off we went. Porter went down the slide all by himself!! He loved it and did it again and again.

About a week ago, Ben told me he had a surprise for me. "A surprise for me? Now... what could that be?" Well... two turtles were about the last thing on my mind. No, they weren't even ON my mind. So yes, we now have two turtles we've named Peat and Repeat. (One is a little bigger than the other one. ) I'm still not sure how I feel about it, but they're an easy keep so I guess it's okay.
They're not doing what you think in this photo. The bigger one, Peat, climbs on top of Repeat everyday and just sits there with all his legs spread straight out, even his toes (or whatever they are) are spread out. It's really funny! But every time I try to get a picture of it, they both jump back in the water.

Blankets Galore

Porter loves his blankets! Luckily, he hasn't attached to just one, but he only likes the 100% kind of rough cotton ones. At least twice a day, he will pull all of his blankets from the nicely folded pile I have them in and spread them throughout the house. I took these pictures in a matter of one minute just walking from room to room.

As you can see, there are a total of 10 blankets in use at one time. Instead of saying "blanket" he calls them "daddy" but he does understand when we tell him to go get his blanket. It's very cute! Ben and I have both been grateful he has something that brings comfort to him, especially when we have a sitter. He does still use a pacifier, but only when he's sleeping. We're working on taking that away though. Tough times to come.

So yes, it's been "some time" since our last post and I don't have any good excuses except simply not wanting to. Nothing is new... we're just enjoying family life together and getting REALLY sick of winter and the cold. Porter can say a lot of words and phrases these days such as: more, bottle, outside, dog, "woof woof," all gone, daddy, mama, love you, no no, uh oh, and bite. There are many more, but I can't recall them. He understands SO MUCH more too. We really are so thrilled to have such a bright little man. He is advanced for his age, we just hope it stays that way!
This is a recent classic Porter face. Sometimes he makes this face when we tell him "no" or if he decides he's mad but doesn't want to throw a fit. Other times, he just makes the face. He also loves climbing into things especially containers that already have things in them and he proceeds to throw everything all over the floor.

Here's our happy boy. He's been walking for well over 3 months now and usually runs wherever he is going. We must avoid socks in the house because he slips and slides all over.

Bath time with daddy is a joy! He absolutely loves it (aside from the actual "bathing" part).

Doesn't he look so grown-up in this picture? At almost 15 months, our little baby is not so baby.

On the Saturday after Thanksgiving, we drove to a nearby town to have chili, stand by a bonfire, listen to music and watch fireworks. It's the official kickoff to the Christmas season. There were a lot of people there this year, but we still enjoyed ourselves. We love the Christmas season!

Porter mimics very well and is now clapping and can sound like an Indian. He even attempts to do both at the same time. Believe it or not, he is even taking steps! Our baby will be walking any day now. AH! Porter just got his first two teeth. They came in at the same time. He's changing so much and talks nonstop all day long. We love it all!

Porter and I took a little trip to Montana this past week to visit my parents. He did okay on the trip - he really doesn't like to be locked up for very long. We had a great visit except my dad had injured his shoulder and couldn't really play with Porter. You can see from this video he got some good laughs out of him though. Porter loves his grandparents and even adapted to Kipper (their puppy). Thanks mom and dad for letting us stay with you!

New McDonald's Commercial

Whenever the new McDonald's commercial is on, Porter will stop whatever he is doing and just stare at the TV. It is hilarious! The song on the commercial is pretty catchy (It's called "Love" by Matt White - I added it to my playlist so it should be playing on this website right now). I think we have a music lover on our hands. My wonderful aunt Kathie, who watches Porter once a week for me, has played the piano for Porter since the beginning. We don't have a piano at our house, but he is VERY aware of what the piano sounds like and will stop to listen whenever he hears the piano in a song. It's very sweet.

Ben's Great Adventure

This past weekend, Ben and his good friend, Derek, had a "man's weekend" full of fishing, 4-wheeling and boating. They had a grand time and luckily escaped the many bear and moose that are in this area. (Ben said to me when he got home "It's probably a good thing you didn't come.") Here are a couple of pictures. Porter is 9 months!

It's happening! Our little man continues to grow, much to our disappointment (we wish he'd just SLOW DOWN), but what a joy he is. At nine months, Porter is perfect. He weighs 19 lbs 4 oz, which only puts him in the 26th percentile for his weight. Surprise, surprise! Those cheeks are deceiving! The doctor says he is ahead on his motor skills. Porter can successfully pull himself up to anything and walk around. Just recently, he has started to let go and can stand all by himself for about 15 seconds. He is fearless - just like his daddy. He babbles constantly and loves to respond to us now. He seems to understand when we tell him "no" and eventually leaves the situation without any damage done. We'll see how long this lasts! It's no secret... Porter loves his daddy! Not that he doesn't love mama too, but there is definitely a different reaction when Ben appears. It's so sweet to witness. Here are some pictures from the past few weeks. Enjoy!
If Ben and I both happen to be up in the morning, we like to bring Porter into bed to play. He's so happy in the morning. It's a great start to the day.

Porter loves to be taller than everyone else. If you hold him on your hip, he WILL climb up you.
I used the sling a lot while we were camping and Porter didn't seem to mind.

We didn't want to let Porter crawl around outside because he's notorious for finding the smallest of parcels and putting them in his mouth, so I left him in the tent for a bit so he could be free. I checked on him a few minutes later to find him just laying there... then daddy peeked in.

Pure Tragedy

It finally happened... my wonderful car broke down on our way home from Utah. We had recently paid it off so I new it was only a matter of time. Luckily we were following Ben's parents back to our house so we had some rescue close by. It turns out, there were some belts that needed to be replaced at 100,000 miles and my car was closer to 120,000... oops. Those owner's manuals really know what they're talking about! Scott and Ben worked very hard all day long and fixed it up just like new. What brilliant men! Even Porter got in on the action and jumped to encourage them on.

The work was intense, as you can see.

Day Trip

With Ben's parents and sister in town, we took a little trip south for a few hours to enjoy the summer weather. This is a meteor hole (per the map we were looking at). The picture really doesn't do it justice. This hole was MASSIVE and incredibly steep.
The mighty hunter! Ben's new passion is spear fishing. He made his own launcher that you can see in this picture. As you can imagine, he was very excited to try it out.

I was enjoying myself watching Ben and his dad attempt to get some fish. The scenery was gorgeous and just a tad on the windy side.

Wedding

We spent last weekend in Provo, Utah for the wedding of Ben's younger brother Sam and his new bride, Jess. We had a really good time, despite the heat and trying to take pictures outside directly in the sun. Needless to say, I had a nice burn by the evening.

Porter is a hot body like me and got quite uncomfortable a couple of times so we dipped him in the fountains to cool him off. If only I could have done the same....

A couple Saturdays ago, we went up into the mountains for a hot dog roast. Unfortunately, this particular area is an open range and the cows weren't very willing to share their spot with us. 6 Months Old

Our little man is 6 months and what a charmer! He is weighing in at 16#9oz and is 26 1/4 inches long - right at the 50th percentile. Porter loves to talk and to make sure everyone knows he has arrived, especially in quiet settings. Right now, he's trying very hard to get around by himself in whatever way he can - his body just isn't doing what his brain wants. He absolutely loves to be watched and will entertain you as long as you're willing to concentrate solely on him. He thinks the kitty is very funny and loves to grab its ears and hold on tight. Porter is so observant and will study everything in new surroundings. So far, no stranger fear and he's getting more relaxed with other people every day. Ben likes to refer to him as Pac-man because Porter's mouth is open almost 24/7... like he's in constant shock mode. He is such a joy and so happy to be alive. We couldn't be happier with our little family.

Future BYU-er

Porter does very well at sitting up these days. It looks like he's about to fall over in the above picture... but not our little man! He managed to get himself sitting straight in no time.

Crib Time

Up until a couple of days ago, Porter has been in a cradle in our room. We noticed recently that we have been waking him up when we go to bed so we deicded to move him out. Ben found this sleigh crib at a yard sale last summer and Porter really loves to be in his own room and have a "big" bed.

Big Hands

Porter has big hands! When we were still in the hospital, a pediatrician came to see him and those were the first words out of his mouth about Porter! Hopefully, he grows into them.

My aunt Kathie watches Porter on Wednesdays when I work. This is a picture she took and for some reason, I think it is darling! He's such a funny baby and has a million expressions, although this is the one we seem to catch a lot on camera.

Ben and I recently noticed how much control he has of his eyebrows. He can move them separately and it seems they're always in motion. When he's really tired, he'll just lift his eyebrows really high to keep his eyelids from closing... or if he's trying to open them when he's waking up. I'm sure this isn't out of the ordinary, but we think it is super cute!

Pacifier Challenge

I set Porter's pacifier (or as Ben likes to call it, his "plug") in front of him so that he would really have to reach for it and before I knew it, he had it and was trying VERY hard to get it in his mouth without using his hands.
Victory! What a talented little man we have.

WIC Prize

I attended a WIC class last week and got this t-shirt as a "prize" because I'm still nursing Porter... I thought it was funny and he seems pretty happy in it too!

Rolling Over

I left Porter on his back this morning and found him a few minutes later like this... AH! Now we really can't leave him out of our sight. Lately, he's been doing lots and lots of talking to himself and reaching for everything! He's not quite 5 months yet, but he sure is strong.

Bath Time

Porter loves bath time... if only our sink grew bigger with him! Porter is now 4 1/2 months!! He weighs 15lbs 10oz and is 25 inches long, right on track. Even though he still has a cold, our baby is so very happy and smiles and laughs all the time.
